Uganda enjoys as much religious diversity as it is with culture. Catholics and Anglicans dominate the population but the moslem community is equally present. The National Mosque right in the city center is iconic, besides its large prayer room your highlight here might be going up to the top of its tower for a rewarding 360 view of Kampala and its famous hills. Towards the end of the 18th Century, Kabaka Mwanga who king of Buganda at the time ordered for the execution of over 30 young men considering them disobedient after they refused to denounce their faith, these heroes are now the celebrated Uganda Martyrs and you can follow their story from the Martyrs shrine in Namugongo or from where it all started at the Kigungu Historical site where the first christian missionaries landed.
